The inclusions and exclusions vary by tour. Each tour has its specific set of inclusions and exclusions. Please refer to the individual tour page to see what is specifically included in that tour.
Many texts state that Kilimanjaro is “easily accessible”. However, you should not underestimate this mountain. There are no technical mountaineering skills required, but general fitness is necessary. However, the biggest problem for climbers is the effects of high altitude, which seem to be unrelated to fitness, age, or gender.
It is a good idea to start some physical training prior to the trek, which might include aerobic cross training and hiking to familiarise your body with the rigors of the trek. The fitter you are, the easier the climb will be for you. Determination and will power is another important factor.
Please use the main menu on the left to browse through our section “Resources>Health information for Kilimanjaro climbers”.
On camping trips, all equipment will be provided except for a 4-season sleeping bag. You do not need to provide any other camping gear; only personal belongings. See our Kilimanjaro packing list and Safari packing list.
It should be noted that the luggage limit per person on domestic flights is 15-20 kg per person (checked-in and hand luggage).
On your inbound flight, don’t check in items that you absolutely need (such as medicines), as it is not uncommon that checked-in luggage gets misdirected and arrives in Tanzania a couple of days after you. It is better to have such items in your hand luggage.
preference, let us know, and we will offer alternatives from our vast network of company-owned and partner accommodations. Booking with us allows you to enjoy discounted rates as we have special agreements with our partners.
Around 80% of climbers choose the Marangu Route (5 or 6 days), which is commonly referred to as the “Tourist” or “Coca Cola” Route. The rest usually goes for the Umbwe, Rongai, or Machame Route (6 or 7 days). The other two routes (Shira and Lemosho) are far less frequented and therefore allow for a more remote and natural experience.
Please note that many of the routes meet on a mid-way point and there are only three routes to the summit.
Please see our route comparison table, read the descriptions of the routes, and ask us if you have any questions.
Kilimanjaro can be climbed throughout the year.
January to March is a very good month with mild temperatures and almost no clouds in the morning and late afternoon. During the day, however, there might be few short rain showers or little snow on the summit. The main rainy season starts end of March and lasts until the end of May. For Kilimanjaro climbers, this means that clouds may block visibility and there might be heavy rains on the lower altitudes and snow on the summit. June, July, and August can be cold, but visibility is usually very good. Temperatures rise in September and October, however, during this time of the year, there is often a belt of mist on the middle altitudes, leaving the summit’s peak through the clouds. November and December usually have perfect visibility in the nights and morning, but short rains during the day and thunderstorms in the late afternoon are common.
For Kilimanjaro climbers, a factor to take into account is the full moon – it is a unique experience to climb the roof of Africa lit under the shining moonlight only without having to use headlights.
Where can I get a visa for Tanzania?
Where in Tanzania is Moshi/Kilimanjaro and how do I get there?
Who will be my guide?
Will I be able to speak to people in English in Tanzania?
The official and spoken languages of the country are Swahili and English. Many people have English as their second language as they were taught this at school. All Tanzanian working in the tourism field can communicate in English.
In the countryside, or when communicating with children, local women, or individuals of lower school education, it might, however, be difficult to speak in English.
It is appreciated by locals if travelers can speak some words in Swahili. A few words are surprisingly easy to master. It is a good idea to spend a few dollars to purchase a Swahili phrasebook.

EXCELLENT Based on 48 reviews Posted on tamar kVerified Outstanding Safari Guide and a Truly Memorable Experience with Godson We had the absolute pleasure of having Godson as our safari guide, and we couldn’t have asked for anyone better! Not only is he a highly professional guide who made sure we saw all the amazing wildlife up close, but he’s also an incredible person. He took care of everything for us and went above and beyond, even when our flight got canceled. He came back to pick us up from the airport, spent the whole day with us, and drove us back again—without expecting anything in return. Godson is kind, funny, and an absolute gem to be around. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone planning a trip to Tanzania. You couldn’t be in better hands!Posted on Nassim GVerified Professional, kind and wonderful guide and person Godson is a wonderful person and guide. We have loved to make our Safari with him. Our safari experience was simply amazing and unforgettable. Godson was the best guide we could have ever possibly hoped for. He made sure that we enjoyed every minute of it and we did! He took care of every detail, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, everything was organised. His knowledge of animals and parks, his patience and his politeness were second to none….and he was such good company too! We learnt so much from him about animals. When we arrived we said hi to a guide, but when we left we said goodbye to a trusted friend. So if you’re reading this review because you don’t know which safari company to choose don’t look anywhere else. Go with Godson and you won’t regret it..Posted on Nicolò MVerified The real Tanzania supervisor!!! Not a guide but a piece of the family. Godson is the best tour leader there is in Arusha. His great experience allows him to know every place to find the rarest animals in the different parks you will visit. It takes care of you for every logistical, health and cultural need. Always punctual and willing to drive endless hours to satisfy your thirst for knowledge and discovery. There can be no Safari without Godson in Tanzania: the two things are closely linked. Nicolò&SilviaPosted on erica fVerified Honeymoon in Tanzania This was our first Safari, organised for our Honeymoon.. and we couldn’t have dreamt a better week!If you search for an adventure, for days full of stories, curiosities and many, many animals, just book a Safari tour with Godson! We were in Tarangire, Serengeti for two nights and, last but not least, we went to Ngorongoro. Apart from the beautiful wildlife, we experienced the great kindness and humanity of Godson. Great experience: recommended!Thank you,Erica and MassimoPosted on Pam MVerified Two of the most magical safari days! If you're looking for a safari guide in Tanzania, Godson is the man. He patiently answered thousands of our questions, knows everything about the physiology and habits of the animals in the park and unerring seemed to lead us always to the most amazing animal sightings. He also seems to have a magic presence with the animals, while they run from other trucks time after time they came right over to ours, for the most up close and personal encounters.Posted on Sharlaina BVerified Beyond amazing, and so much better than we expected! I cannot convey how incredible this tour was! We spent 3 days in Tarangire National Park and took THOUSANDS of photos. Godson was an amazing guide, knowing just where and when to take us to specific locations. He was also extremely patient and beyond knowledgeable; answering our constant barrage of questions. I highly recommend him and Martial Adventure Safaris for an unforgettable and spectacular safari experience.Posted on Pietro ArzentonVerified An unforgettable experience When we decided to do our Safari in Tanzania for the first time in our life, our travel agent told us that he wouldn’t had sold us the trip if there wasn’t Godson free from other tours. Luckly he was free and then we understood why our travel agent said that to us: even if he saw all the beauties of the savanna many many times I could see his eyes gleaming like ours when we encountered lions and other animals. He is really passionate about nature and he guided us to the best spots in the park that let me took these amazing pics. Godson is absolutely the best guide for the safari in Tanzania!Posted on Naomi SmithVerified 5* Tanzanian Safari Experience! Could not recommend doing the Wildlife Safari Tour enough! As a female solo traveller, I was understandably nervous going abroad alone for the first time but Godson put me right at ease and we had the most incredible time. Having done safaris in other parts of Africa before, I knew what to expect but this was like nothing else I could ever have imagined. The game we saw from day one was simply amazing and I couldn't believe how lucky we got. The service, the food, the experience, literally everything was just perfect and I'm so glad I did it. Would definitely do this again! Thank you, Godson!!Posted on RozaVerified Safari trip with Godson We are SO lucky to meet Godson.
